Paint: Paint the entry door a nice vibrant color to draw attention to the entryway. Consider also painting porch furniture or other accent pieces the same color to create an amazing overall appearance.
Replace Hardware: Consider replacing the exterior lighting fixtures and switches, doorknobs, and the wall-mounted mailbox with newer, shinier, more modern designs.
Create Symmetry: Symmetrical compositions of lighting and other decorative elements are a great way to boost curb appeal. Consider installing a light on each side of the door and add a vase or flower pot on each side as well. Make sure all items are equally spaced and look great from several yards away.
Outdoor Lighting: Create an impressive display around the fountain, privacy fence, driveway, walkway, or retaining fence. These areas are generally overlooked, which is sad because they can be dressed up to be real attention-grabbers. Go green by using solar-powered lighting if that’s more up your alley.
Instant Color: Create a living color by bringing in several potted plants of varying shapes, sizes, and colors. Consider large-leafed plants such as the elephant ear or hosta, and brightly colored blooming plants such as azaleas. Keep your local area in mind when choosing plant life. You can deter mosquitoes by planting lemongrass or deter deer with marigold.
New Mailbox: Create a new mailbox area if your mailbox isn’t wall mounted on the exterior of your home. Consider building a raised garden with incredible plant life and using a brand new mailbox that really creates an incredible appearance.
Window Boxes: The installation of window boxes allows you to create a splash of color at the base of every window if you wish. Keep it somewhat uniform, but each window box does not have to be a mirror of the other.
Build Exterior Structures: Pergolas, arbors, gazebos, and fences are wonderful ways to spruce up the exterior of your home. You may choose to mount exterior lighting, plant hangers, and other hardware on them. These structures are a beautiful way to add functionality to your property as well. Use them to create exterior resting areas, entertainment areas, or simply a shaded area to relax.
Outdoor Art and Water Features: Gazing balls, birdbaths, ponds, and fountains add a very natural appeal to the exterior of your home.
Shutters: Paint the shutters or install some if you don’t already have them. You would be amazed at the difference they make in the appearance of your home. Consider using shutters that match the overall appearance and architectural style of your home for the best results.
Accent Pieces: Your home is unique to others in some way. Choose that specific element and accent it with new roofing or trim. Consider using copper roofing in a specific area, such as your entryway.
Gutters and Downspouts: Replace your gutters and downspouts with newer, more decorative options. The guttering around the roof of your home protects the exterior of your home and landscaping against water damage. This doesn’t mean you have to use unattractive, unoriginal gutters and downspouts. Choose a decorative option instead.
